If you’re not paying attention, the “five-finger discount” can happen anywhere.
In 2011, we were part of the team that launched The Build Network (which included Build magazine, above left) for Mansueto Ventures, the owners of Fast Company and Inc. Magazines. We called The Build Network the “Catalog of Ideas” and it was aimed at mid-market company CEOs.
The premiere issue of Build (pictured above), with the title “Three Things” debuted in the fall of 2011. The three things referred to the 3 topics of coverage the magazine was focused on.
A few years later we stumbled upon the January/February 2014 issue of Associations Now and couldn’t help but notice the strong similarities.
Ironically, Associations Now, was also a client of ours.
The magazine was published by our then-client TMG in Washington, DC, who later merged with McMurry Custom Publishing in Phoenix, who then later merged with Manifest Digital, based in New York and Chicago. (Good thing I’m not chasing them down for a payment — they’re an elusive target!)
We were hired by TMG in 2012 to redesign the tired looking magazine that was aimed at nonprofit association executives and turned it into what you see below.
