UConn National championship, The Daily Campus Special Edition

Last fall, I collaborated with the student editors of The Daily Campus, the newspaper of the University of Connecticut (UConn), on an ambitious redesign of the paper. [Full disclosure: my son is an editor and student there]. It was one of the most rewarding projects I've ever done, mostly because I've always been very interested in newspapers. Years ago I was a designer at the Dallas Morning News and later an art director at the Detroit Free Press.

So when the UConn women’s basketball team beat Notre Dame to win its tenth NCAA title last month, we offered (begged, really) to design the special cover wrap for the celebration. UConn is legendary for its basketball prowess — both the men's and the women's teams are rotten with championships — but they still don't take it lightly when it happens.

Congratulations to the women of UConn and their legendary coach, Geno Auriemma, on this huge accomplishment.
