My First Cover at ‘O’: A Video History

My First Cover at ‘O’: A Video History

On the tenth anniversary of my first day as design director of O, The Oprah Magazine, I thought it’d be fun to revisit the drama around my first cover.

After seeing Michelle Obama become the first person other than Oprah to appear on the cover of O, Ellen DeGeneres decided she had to be next. Ellen began talking up the idea on her show, and it wasn’t too long before Oprah got wind of it. The rest is history.

The epic photoshoot resulted in three stunning covers — all of which were published. The photos were shot by legendary Colombian fashion photographer Ruven Afanador, and the shoot was produced by our talented photo director, Katie Schad.
